» I can import a PDB data file into Maya and visualize / render it in a CPK, Ball & Stick, Ribbon model, and a contact surface model.
EXPECTATIONS:
*Before you start, I want you to really think why I am asking you to do this assignment, particularly if you are not a 3D student. Write your thoughts in your blog.
You were just hired to create molecular visuals for a scientific presentation. (Since this is not real, you will choose two molecules structure from the Molecule of the Month) The client wants five model renders, a CPK, Ball & Stick, Ribbon model, a contact surface models, and a biological unit. This is not your area of expertise, but you need the money. You will need to teach yourself the basics of molecular modeling.
» Create five renders (high quality, at 1k resolution)
- CPK
- Ball-and-Stick
- Ribbon model
- Contact Surface Models
- Biological unit
» During the during your research, document the following questions in your blog. *Use complete sentences.
- Explain the purpose of each model type, a CPK, Ball & Stick, Ribbon model, a contact surface models, and a biological unit.
- With the CPK and Ball-and-Stick model, what do the colors represent – specifically?
- What is a Biological Unit and how do you know if your protein
- What is a Capsid?
- Ambient Occlusion, what is the relevance to molecular visualization?
- What do you think are the advantages of molecular graphics done with Maya versus other visualization tools?
Just like any job you will need to do you research on the subject; almost anything you can find that relates to the topic will help you communicate effectively with the client. In your blog respond to the following. (in your own words)
Client Model -Choose one protein from the Molecule of the Month archive and find the following:
- Molecule
- PDB ID Number
- Author(s)
- type:
- Number of Chains:
- What is the function of this protein?
- Where is this protein found (type of organism and/or cell type) What is the biological relevance of this protein?
- Are any diseases associated with this protein? If so, elaborate on how understanding the structure of the protein may be important.
*Document in your blog including numerous screenshots. This should take you less than a period.
